Culturally Competent Case Management? TRAINING BEING DEVELOPED FOR COMMUNITY OPTIONS PROJECTS (COPS) A statewide HACC funded Project currently underway will involve the production of a training package for improving cultural competence within assessment, care planning and monitoring for COPs services. This training product will assist future case management workers in NSW to develop their cultural competency. The training may also be linked into a VTAB accredited competency based Assessment and Case Management course. The Project has been funded through the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care and is auspiced by the Ethnic Communities Council of NSW Inc (ECC). NSW Community Options is working in partnership with ECC as the initial focus for the project is Community Options services. Although the initial focus is on Community Options services, the application for the materials is expected to be broad enough to address the needs of other case management services. The consultants (in consortium) to this project are Carrie Hayter and Jenny Bray. Both Carrie and I have a firm background in training and policy issues, and we are both personally and professionally committed to promoting the development of cultural competency within the community care sector. If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to call or email either Carrie or myself. Jenny Bray (Community Services Consultant)   View Document

NSW AGED CARE ALLIANCE ADVISES ON DISABILITY/AGED CARE SPLIT In October 2005, The NSW Premier’s Office asked the NSW Aged Care Alliance for advice on the upcoming decisions regarding potential major structural change to aged care and community care programs which are currently jointly administered and funded by the Australian and state and territory governments. On 10th February 2006, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) will decide whether to continue with existing arrangements or to split responsibility between levels of government. In advance of the COAG meeting, the Aged Care Alliance produced a paper outlining their position on the issue, which also includes advice from the NSW HACC Issues Forum and the NSW Aboriginal Community Care Gathering Committee.   View Document
